Cheshire Plate: Prenton 86 - Port Sunlight 0
What a marvellous start to the season! This Cheshire Plate match saw 12 tries for Prenton and a clean defence line as well. We could have done with some stiffer opposition, but this game gave all the players and subs a great run out.
There was a lot of straight powerful running, the backs put together some well rehearsed moves, most of which came off. The forwards and backs knitted well together and there was a lot of end to end stuff. Playing with the wind to start with, Prenton exerted pressure straightaway. We were camped in their half and gained the first points thru a penalty from Daryl Parker. Some slick passing movements gained a try from Jake which was converted by Daryl.
A drop goal was Daryl’s next trick, and now we were continually piling on the pressure. Three more tries followed before half time – Jamie Newman got 1, and yes that man again – Daryl got another 2. All in all, I don’t think Prenton played any rugby in their own half, as from each kick off, they were straight back into the oppositions territory.
Port Sunlight did put up some opposition, but their backs had little penetration skills, and their tackling was poor. Prenton on the other hand seemed to be doing everything right. It was certainly a good game to watch, and more tries came from Andy Johnson, Daryl again, Mike Salusbury - 2, Jamie Newman, and Jamie Reeves -3. Daryl got 7 conversions, and Jake 3.
Men of the Match – Jamie Reeves, and Ritchie Burley (Daryl Parker had gone early)
Roll on next week, but we could really do with some stiffer opposition.
Team: Andy Johnson, Mike Salusbury, Jake Thomson. Daryl Parker, Steve Evans, Paul Topping, Mark Astbury, Robbie Davin, Alex McHugh, Steve Crompton, Roy Triggs, Ritchie Burlet, Jamie Newman, Stephen Leahey, Rhys Randal. Subs: Dave Lewis, Jamie Reeves, Dermot McCluskey, Chris Bennett, Charles Allen
